He has appeared on CNBC, Bloomberg, CBS News, and Reuters, and he and his work are often quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Barron's, and Forbes. James has been named one of the Top 100 People in Finance and possesses a deep understanding of investment management, with a particular emphasis on macroeconomic research and risk management. He is responsible for creating the firm's Active Risk Management processes.
James is the author of two award-winning investment and finance books, "The Journey to Wealth" and "The Sustainable Endowment." As a sought-after speaker, organizations often feature him for his insightful and informative presentations on a wide range of investment topics. He has spoken for several public and private institutions, including the American Association of Individual Investors (AAII) and Charles Schwab. A devoted philanthropist, James was nominated as the 2018-19 Citizen of the Year of the Town of Tiburon for his dedication to giving back to the local and global community. He is a member of the Forbes Finance Council, The CFA Institute, and the Financial Planning Association. James' experience includes positions with LF Rothschild and Lehman Brothers before founding Main Street in 1993. He is a graduate of Harvard University.
When James is not pursuing his passion for investing and philanthropy, he can be found spending time with his family, participating in vintage auto rallies, traveling, and playing tennis. As a jazz fan, one of James' favorite movies is Whiplash. His current favorite read is Ray Dalio's, Principles. James is based out of our New York City office.
